So, while interning at the BBA and taking classes this semester I've been thinking a lot about Internet-Based Marketing. This is mainly because I'm taking that class with Elaine Young this semester. So, again I was reading some blogs of my classmates in my Online Visibility course. Then I came across an entry titled "What Will Make A Strong Site" and it presented a few simple and good points. It caused me to think about my project with GoStowe because we're trying to help them improve their website in my Internet Class. However, right now their site is VERY busy and overwhelming.
P.S. The name of the blog I just referred you to is: Fitness Independance.

Checkbooks
So, when I was at work the other day my supervisors and I got to talking about the economy. I was telling them how lately I've been slacking when it comes to paying attention to my money situation. As I was thinking about everything I remembered a blog entry I read that made a good point. It said that by using your checkbook more to record transactions, you can actually save money because you'll be more aware of everything you're spending.
If you're reading this and are lazy when it comes to managing your checkbook, I would recommend you check this out!
P.S. the name of this blog is Common Cents. Creative, huh?

Blogging
The other day while interning I asked my supervisor if she had ever thought of creating a blog for the BBA. She told me she had but that she didn't think it would help the BBA because she didn't think people would check it. I told her that I thought she was wrong because the blog could help help to get information out and people would want to subscribe to the blog in their RSS feed. I think she's considering it now, especially since I offered to get it started for her!
I'll keep you updated!

Season of Light
I think we have our theme for the Holiday Social! One of my supervisors suggested a "season of light." Sounds pretty. Then we were thinking of doing a middle-eastern theme because most religions have light as a symbol. This way everyone who comes to the social would be represented. This year we want to give our guests something to take away with them. I thought of getting white votive candles and sponge paints in different shaped sponges. Then when the guests arrive they can decorate the candles as the "light" for the evening. However, our concern is that people might not like getting paint on themselves. Yet, sponge paint would involve very little paint on the hands, so we'll see.
Right now I'm sending out our Save the Date e-mails. I learned how to make them using a new direct e-mail program called Constant Contact. Elaine Young talked about it on one of my classes and said later on in the semester we'll learn to use it, but now I'm ahead of the class! It was a very intense/involved program. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I do know as I've said before that I'm really looking forward to this social though!

Planning and Promotions Meeting
So, today I went to my first P&P meeting for my internship at the Burlington Business Association. It was at Madera's on Main Street, in dowtown Burlington. The meeting was actually very interesting. Only 8 of us were there, but that made it easier for us to discuss the items on our agenda. First we discussed ideas for our membership meeting that is happening on November 6th (my birthday!!) Our first idea is to have the theme be "Customer Relationship Management." So, going with that theme we were all tossing out ideas for the meeting and who could be panelists. However, later in our meeting someone mentioned seeing a presentation by Vermonters for Economic Health. Everyone thought that sounded also like a great idea for our meeting on the 6th. Therefore, right now, we haven't picked a solid topic because everyone wants to research the Vermonters group and see if they think they would be a good meeting to host.
After talking about our meeting coming up, we next talked about our Holiday Social which is going to be on December 4th. Since working at this internship, I've been helping with a lot of planning for it, which my supervisors mentioned! :) They said I did a good job typing up all of the notes from our previous meeting. We quickly went over a bunch of topics concerning the holiday social. I'll be doing more work on that over the next couple of weeks. I'm excited to go to the social because I think it will a great opportunity for me to network, especially since I graduate in December!
Overall, it was a great meeting and I look forward to our meeting tomorrow with the Waterfront Action Group. One of my favorite parts of my internship is that I get to go to all these meetings. So far I've been to a Board of Directors meeting, a Membership meeting, the P&P meeting, and tomorrow will be the WAG meeting.
